Some Clarification.....
Hi Sisters, Here is some clarification on what we discussed in Relief Society yesterday about diseases in the millennium.
Thank you Sis. Scott for digging deeper for us and clarifying this point for us!
Thank you Sis. Scott for digging deeper for us and clarifying this point for us!
Lesson 43: Jesus Christ Will Come Again
Primary 2: Choose the Right A, (1995), 235–39
Would you like to be here when Jesus comes again? Why?
Discuss with the children how wonderful it will be on earth when Jesus comes again. People will be able to see Jesus, to walk and talk with him, and to have him put his loving arms around them. Point out that after Jesus comes, everyone will be friends. There will be no evil people. We will not need to lock our doors because everything and everybody will be safe. There will be no disease to cause us sickness or pain, and all the animals will be friends with us and with each other.
Lesson 36: The Prophet Isaiah
"Lesson 36: The Prophet Isaiah," Primary 6: Old Testament, (1996)
1. 2.
Have the children close their eyes and imagine a world where all creatures live in peace. Ask the children how such a world might be different from our world. Help them think of blessings, such as no wars, no crime, no disease, and so on, that would be a part of such a world. Explain that the earth will be like this during the Millennium. Have a child read John 14:27 aloud.
The Millennium
“Chapter 34: The Millennium,” Gospel Fundamentals, 189
What Life Will Be Like during the Millennium
During the Millennium, the earth will be as it was when Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. There will be no war. Jesus will rule both the Church and the government. All laws will be based on true and righteous principles. There will be two capital cities. One will be in Jerusalem. The other capital will be the New Jerusalem, in North America.
People will live together in peace and love. All animals, even those that are now enemies, will live together in peace. They will no longer fight with each other.
There will be no disease, and there will be no death. When people become old, they will not die as we do now. They will change in an instant from the way we are now to an immortal condition, which means they will never die again.
It will be a great privilege to live during the Millennium. Things we do not now understand will become clear to us. Life will be very much as it is now, except that everything will be done in love and peace. People will continue to have and raise children, plant and harvest crops, and build houses.
Discussion
Isaiah 65:17–25 refers to the Millennium. People living then will have no desire for things to be as they once were. The old earth, in fact, “shall not be remembered, nor come into mind” ( v. 17 ). Everything will be gloriously new, sorrow will cease (see v. 19 ), children will not die in infancy (see v. 20 ), homes will be built, and fruit trees and gardens planted and enjoyed. No one will drive others from their lands, as the Saints were driven in the early days of this dispensation (see vv. 21–22 ).
In summarizing conditions in this glorious day, Elder Bruce R. McConkie wrote: “Great and marvelous though the changes will be incident to life during the millennial era, yet mortality as such will continue. Children will be born, grow up, marry, advance to old age, and pass through the equivalent of death. Crops will be planted, harvested, and eaten; industries will be expanded, cities built, and education fostered; men will continue to care for their own needs, handle their own affairs, and enjoy the full endowment of free agency. Speaking a pure language ( Zeph. 3:9 ), dwelling in peace, living without disease, and progressing as the Holy Spirit will guide, the advancement and perfection of society during the millennium will exceed anything men have supposed or expected.” ( Mormon Doctrine, pp. 496–97.)
A great deal of information about the Millennium has been revealed in Doctrine and Covenants 101:23–31 .
